Why It Matters
When combating wildland fires, water emerges as a crucial element in every suppression endeavor. In rural areas lacking municipal water systems, securing access to water resources poses a challenge for both water tenders and firefighting personnel. Frequently, bodies of water, such as lakes, rivers, ponds, and creeks, are within the fire zone, but constraints like limited road access, stable ground, drafting limitations, or rugged terrain obstacles often impede their use during shuttling operations. When such operations are required, tenders and engines must search for a water supply from a conveniently accessible source, which may be a substantial distance away from the incident.
Negotiating long distances to access municipal water supplies or drafting locations that are deemed accessible becomes necessary. A significant portion of water supply on large incidents comes from privately owned water tenders. Frequently, the operators are not trained firefighters and are often not in peak physical condition. We have devised a solution that is user-friendly and does not necessitate traversing steep embankments to operate a pump during filling. The Remote Hydrant is designed to be deployed in challenging environments, offering a high capacity and high volume watering solution with effortless functionality.
